After a normal meal with my family, on the ride back from the restaurant, I exclaimed, “I’m dizzy”. Immediately after I had lost my pulse and my heart had stopped. After the police arrived, they were able to get me with a weak heartbeat after I was without one for almost 20 minutes. I was placed in a medically induced coma for my brain to heal. Doctors were doubtful I’d ever be able to think again or wake up. A few days later, I was brought in to get an ICD implanted. To this day, doctors have no clue why this happened to me. Joshua
Joshua,
You have an amazing story. I have an ICD implanted too. It was implanted when I was 17 years old! I hope you are doing well! Doctor’s thought I would have severe brain damage after my cardiac arrest but I was lucky enough to not have any!
Hey Joshua,
I am a SCA survivor and we have a lot of parallels in our stories. I too have an ICD and was in a medically-induced coma. The cause of my SCA is still unknown; I find this to be one of the toughest parts of my battle; I was simply sitting in a desk at school when mine happened. Hope all is well! –Mike
